Humayun Kabir says remarks targeted 'new BJP leaders' after CM Suvendu's warning

Humayun Kabir addressed the media outside the Assembly on Monday after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari issued a stern warning over his controversial remarks during the Assembly session. Humayun said his comments were directed at "new BJP leaders" and not at the Chief Minister or the administration. He also stated that he was unconcerned about the FIRs registered against him and that he would not seek anticipatory bail. The Chief Minister had stated in the Assembly that two FIRs had been registered and that police would take action in accordance with the law.

Humayun Kabir said the police had informed him they were required to act according to administrative instructions. He stated that his political remarks were made in the context of his son's election campaign and claimed he had not referred to the administration or the Chief Minister by name. He further said there was no need to unite Muslim votes and that the election would determine who received public support.

Earlier in the Assembly, BJP MLAs raised objections to Humayun Kabir's remarks and sought a statement from the Chief Minister. Responding to the issue, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said it was time to take action against such statements, confirmed that two cases had been registered, and stated that he would visit Murshidabad within a week while police proceeded with action under the law.
